Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human interaction possessed by machinery. San Luis Obispo High School is at risk from robots creating art because future SLOHS artists will have their jobs affected by AI art systems. Many companies are selling art created by AI, making it less popular for art to be bought from an artist that created their art purposefully. AI art is beneficial in some ways; for example it cuts down on time that art is created and meets demand with supply. However, when AI art is used by companies to make a profit, it takes that profit away from artists. Companies need to stop distributing spammed art from AI systems into the art community.
Art has its own personality that every artist gives it, so the generated art created by AI takes away that special human touch.
“I know that it’s bad because its taking away the individuality and human touch of art,” said senior Farith Hatley.
Art has and is a very human experience. When a human makes it, the art is impressive to many eyes that view the piece. Art created by humans possesses a creative quality that can influence other artists to use or branch off of. While AI art can provide inspiration, it doesn’t have a human artist touch.
Art created by human artists possess a watermark. A watermark is an original mark that the artist owns, showing that they created that piece of art. This makes it harder to steal or copy that artwork and pass as someone else’s. Robots creating art has been popularized because of how interesting it is, however, art created by robots does not possess a watermark. This makes it much more at risk to creating a global issue in the art community that spreads to future artists of our generation.
Art has been very influential and promising as artists continue to show how truly amazing it is. “[AI art is] taking away the emotion and expression of art because they are robots,” said senior Farith Hatley. Students seeking a career in art are now at risk due to modern technology advancements that will take away the jobs and money available.
Art is influential because it inspires young artists.
‘’I feel that AI art helps big companies, but it does have a negative side when it comes back to jobs perceived as lower in the economy. It has affected factory jobs and will affect artists most likely the same way,” said senior Mia Allegreta.
Robots taking over jobs from factory workers is beneficial to high income job owners and companies because they don’t have to pay the factory workers. Art made by robots will be beneficial to companies because they are receiving money instead of artists receiving the money to use for their life and life necessities; however it will have a very big negative impact on artists seeking jobs.
AI art is quickly changing the art community and where people choose to spend their money.
In order to preserve the sanctity of artwork and maintain the job pool for artists, we must reject AI art.
