San Luis Obispo High School Performing Arts is putting on their very own production of the beloved musical “Mamma Mia!” and it is currently showing until Saturday March 18.
Directed by theater director Noelle Eben, the cast is over 30 strong. The group has been working hard for many months to put on this show, and watching it is a treat. Here are the top three reasons you should buy tickets to see “Mamma Mia!” this weekend before it closes for good.
First, literally every song is a banger. You probably already know the words to “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” and “Honey, Honey,” and this production will have you humming them for days after you leave the theater. Every song is an earworm, and the impressive dance numbers only enhance their effect. ABBA just never misses.
Second, this is the final SLOHS Theater production for starring seniors Stella Tabuenca, Sophie Kirby, Lucy Mendoza, and Mark Rourke.
Tabuenca, playing Donna Sheridan on stage, is well known for her charisma and charm as an ASB officer, yet she is now showing off her impressive musical talents and acting abilities in “Mamma Mia!” She is dazzling, she is a dancing queen, and she’s still Donna!
“Come see Mamma Mia! This Mediterranean masterpiece is full of catchy songs, fun dances, a heartwarming story, and lots of sequins. We’ve spent many hours working to bring our production from page to stage, you won’t want to miss out,” said Tabuenca.
Kirby, playing her namesake Sophie Sheridan, has been heard singing the national anthem at school rallies, yet “Mamma Mia!” gives her an opportunity to shine even brighter. Kirby has been a part of SLOHS Performing Arts for much of her high school career, and she has dreamed of being in “Mamma Mia!” since she was young. Come celebrate Sophie Sheridan’s wedding with us this weekend!
Mendoza plays the beloved character Rosie. This is both her first and her last show with SLOHS Performing Arts, and her debut has been nothing short of fabulous. Mendoza is an active member of SLOHS Choir and her transition to theater has been seamless. Take a chance on “Mamma Mia!”
“We put a lot of work into it and I love watching all of the solos and under attack has got to be my favorite number,” said Mendoza.
Lastly, Rourke plays the potential father and wealthy architect Sam Carmichael. He has been seen in other SLOHS productions such as “Clue” and “Wizard of Oz,” and his final performance in “Mamma Mia!” is bittersweet. “This is the biggest thing we’ve ever done and it would be a shame to miss out. My favorite part of the show is the performance put on by sophomore Trevor Pearson. He really embodies the character of Harry Bright in every scene,” said Rourke.

“Mamma Mia!” is truly a fantastic display of the talent and hard work at SLOHS. Come see the show for closing weekend and become a dancing queen!
