Upperclassmen at San Luis Obispo High School(SLOHS) are excitedly waiting for this year’s Prom. Many complaints from attendees have arisen at past Prom’s regarding sub-par playlists. Expressions go around campus to interview students and hear their opinions on this important event.
“I would like to hear popular songs that everyone can sing to,” said junior Gia Anselmo.
Following the lead of Winter Formal, there will be opportunities to have students come up and DJ at the dance.
The playlist they will use will be created by the student recommended songs.
“We should play some EDM. Like stuff I can really bump into. Black Eyed Peas is always a no brainer,” said senior Ian Hammons.
Students at SLOHS have begun taking a preference for throwback songs instead of more recent songs as people enjoy listening to them and a majority of people can sing along.
“I think any songs with a good beat would be fun. Artists like Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, and Kesha are super fun to listen to,” said junior Landen Allison-Bullock.
As equally important as a playlist is to a dance, so is the venue. This year, SLOHS is ditching Mountain Brook Church as the venue and is going with the Fremont Theater in downtown San Luis Obispo. Students are very excited for the opportunity to have a new venue.
“Fremont will be super sick because the music will be really loud and the atmosphere will be super cool compared to the usual Prom venue,” said Hammons.
With the venue of Prom being announced at the Spring Rally, students are excitedly waiting for the opportunity to experience a vital high school memory in a unique location.
“I am excited for Fremont because it is an actual music venue and will have the vibe of a concert versus a traditional school dance,” said Anselmo.
The new venue and the student created playlist are going to be important parts to create an experience that is unforgettable for our students. There will be a Google Form available from the Junior Class Officers next week for your recommendations.
