On Saturday February, 26 San Luis Obispo High School attended the 29th annual meet, Bearcat relays. This is a track meet hosted by Paso Robles high school that SLOHS goes to every year.
The track team left SLOHS campus on a bus at about seven a.m and started to compete at nine a.m, leaving Paso Robles at about 2:30 p.m. There are a total of 15 events for both boys and girls offered at Bearcat Relays.
Being the first meet of the year for SLOHS, athletes tried not to come in with too high of expectations, while still having confidence in their team’s ability. “It has been a while since the team has been to a meet and a lot of our top athletes aren’t here anymore because they graduated. So I’m going into this meet expecting we’ll do good because we always do, but not putting too much pressure on myself,” said senior Emmersen Hill.
Since COVID-19 this has been the first time SLOHS has been able to attend Bearcat relays.“It feels so great to do normal things again like going to this track meet,” said freshman Lauren Fouhy. Competing in this meet was SLOHS and nine other schools, including one of our rivals Arroyo Grande high school.
SLOHS crushed its opponents, winning with a total of 80 points with second place being at a total of 49 points. SLOHS came home with lots of medals, so the team and coaches were more than happy with the results of their first meet. With an overall success, looking forward, the team hopes to see more accomplishment and growth. Go tigers track and field!
