Exercise is an important part of staying healthy and fit. There are many ways that people stay active, from going on walks to sports to weight lifting.
Not many students choose to exercise outside of school since many already either take P.E. or participate in a school sport. However, some still put aside the time to find ways to stay active after school.
“After school, I have tennis practice until 5:30, and then, if I’m not tired, I go to the gym and I have a program that I do,” said sophomore Sean Tran. He does weight training at the Kennedy or YMCA gym.
“I’m on a rock climbing team. Its practices go from 3:30 to 6:30,” said junior Jude Shin. “I’ve been climbing for four years, and training for about three and a half years.” Shin goes to a climbing gym called The Pad, which is located at 888 Ricardo Ct, close to the Marigold shopping center.
While weight training and rock climbing are both productive and active sports, they aren’t very common. Training at a gym requires buying a membership that many people probably don’t want to put their money into.
It’s more likely that students would like to participate in activities that are easier and more accessible. Some of these may be walking around the neighborhood, going for a bike ride, or just doing at-home workouts. Even if these exercises seem simple, any activity can be just as productive as the more time-consuming sports.
Exercise is important and worth the effort. Whether students choose to do an intense sport or a simple, short workout, it’s always better than sitting inside all day.
