The students and staff of the San Luis Coastal Unified School District all take a break on the third Monday in January each year to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day or, MLK day.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a very important social rights activist in the United States. He was an African American man with a big vision for our society. Especially when it came to social rights and equality.
He organized many marches and protests and is famous for his “I have a dream…” speech. King always led everything with love and just wanted the world to be equal.
Now, a number of people may say that what Martin Luther King Jr. did is not worth their children missing school. And the question is, should students be in school on MLK Day?
The short answer is no. King was a very important part of our history and if students like me don’t go to school on Presidents day then why should we go to school on MLk Day?
In the end, Martin Luther King Jr. was just as important as any president and he fought for equal rights and helped our country come a long way with racism and segregation.
Let’s all remember the courageous man who had a dream and the things he did to help our country.
