San Luis Obispo High School is crawling with music lovers. Luckily for them, singer songwriter Lana Del Rey just dropped her eighth studio album titled “Blue Banisters”.
Del Rey shot to fame in 2011 with the release of her debut single “Video Games” which can be found on her staple album “Born to Die”, a pop sensation. In 2020 she was nominated for the Album of the Year award at the 62nd Grammy’s ceremonies for her album “Norman F****ing Rockwell!” but unfortunately lost to Billie Eilish’s album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”.
After listening to the album a few times, my favorite tracks are “Thunder”, “Sweet Carolina”, and “Arcadia”. Some honorable mentions are “If You Lie Down With Me” and “Living Legend”.
Let’s talk about “Living Legend”. With around fifty seconds left to the song, a wailing starts. This wailing may sound like a guitar riff or saxophone at first, but is actually Del Rey singing. In its beauty, her voice is so convincing to be a different instrument, that it was hard to believe at first.
On this album, many songs were originally leaked/unreleased that Del Rey had recorded years ago and didn’t make the cut.
“Thunder” was recorded in 2017, and then re-recorded for the album. The tone of the original version is heavier, as the new track is lightened by some acoustic guitar and more harmonies. However, most of the lyrics are the same, and the sad, heart wrenching mood stays.
Make sure to give the album a listen, Tigers!
