San Luis Obispo High School theater is putting on a play! “Clue” is coming at the end of October. After theatre being pretty much shut down throughout quarantine (Zoom aside), students are excited to be back and put on a show.
Expressions decided to interview cast member sophomore Emily Sincoff to find out more about the play and what role Sincoff plays in it.
Expressions: What is “Clue” about?
Sophomore Emily Sincoff: “Clue” is a comedy and murder mystery set in the 1950s on the East Coast near Washington D.C. It surrounds six guests: Mr. Green, Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, Miss Scarlet, Mrs. White, Mrs. Peacock, and the butler, Wadsworth. The guests all receive a letter to come to the mysterious Boddy Manor and while they are there, someone is murdered.
Expressions: Who did you audition for? Did you get that role or a different one?
Sincoff: I originally auditioned for three roles: Miss Scarlet, Mrs. White, and Mrs. Peacock. I fortunately got callbacks for all three and then landed the role of Miss Scarlet.
Expressions: Have you started rehearsing for the play yet?
Sincoff: We started rehearsals the day after callbacks. Callbacks were originally going to be after school on Friday September 10, but they were postponed to Monday, so we started rehearsals that Tuesday.
Expressions: How do you feel about being in “Clue”?
Sincoff: I am really excited about being a part of “Clue”. Everyone in the cast is so nice, utterly hilarious, and talented. I am always looking forward to going to rehearsals since I know there will be a lot of laughs.
Expressions: Do you have a favorite part of the play that you’re excited about?
Sincoff: I am always excited for the death scenes because those are the most fun to practice. I do not condone murder, but it’s really fun to pretend. My character in particular is supposed to be very sarcastic and sexy and it’s so much fun to say all of the witty one-liners.
Expressions: Anything else you’d like to say?
Sincoff: If you want to see your fellow SLOHS classmates murder each other, this is the play to come to. In all seriousness, “Clue” is legitimately hilarious and very entertaining. It’s extremely well written and advisor Noelle Eben, our director, is awesome and has great ideas. There will be six shows, so there are plenty of opportunities to come see it!
