As stress festers from upcoming finals, home life, grades, and jobs in the minds of San Luis Obispo Students’, healthy outputs for this stress are a necessity. Crystals may be shiny and sparkly, but they can also have many beneficial properties within them that have been shown to relieve and lessen stress.
There is a list of crystals that have been known to relieve stress and panic attacks. Studies have also been done to prove that the crystal Amethyst has helped some with calming themselves before big decisions or even tests. Crystals can be a great output for students at SLOHS to calm themselves and prepare them for the stressful rest of the school year during COVID-19.
Expressions asked junior Berlyn Ellsworth some questions about her collection of crystals and how they may have helped her with mood swings or stressful school days.
Expressions: What are your favorite crystals and why?
Junior Berlyn Ellsworth: My favorite crystals are selenite, rose quartz, and opalite. Selenite is a strong crystal that doesn’t need to be charged or cleansed. Rose quartz is specific to love and I keep them for each of my family members. Opalite is a beautiful cloudy iridescent that is so fascinating.
Expressions: Do you believe that crystals can improve moods and relieve stress
Ellsworth: I believe crystals improve my life. I love their look, they help me meditate and calm down, and channel my energy.
Expressions: Have you ever had an experience where you have felt that having a crystal nearby has improved or helped with your mood?
Ellsworth: I use my crystals to help me slow down my thoughts and redirect myself. If I get overwhelmed with homework or am having anxiety I just stop to breathe and focus on my crystals.
Students at SLOHS should invest in some beautiful crystals to help improve their mental health during these trying times of COVID-19! There is a shop in Downtown SLO called Unique Selections that has plenty of crystals to choose from and kind staff to help with the extensive collection.
