As the New Year approaches, so does the seventh annual FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community, Leaders of America) Iron Chef competition on January 11 at San Luis Obispo High School.
“Iron Chef is the biggest fundraiser of the year,” said FCCLA adviser and SLOHS teacher Lisa Washmuth.
With just a $100 donation to join, teams of two to four compete in front of a set of professional chef judges.
Teams are compiled of teachers, family, and friends. Each are given a secret ingredient two days before the competition and are judged on the basis of presentation, taste, and use of the secret ingredient.
The audience pays $5 for entry and gets to participate in an auction, all while munching on some free food. The auction items are all kitchen related and donated by local companies and friends.
All the proceeds go back into the club and fund regional, state, and national competitions. FCCLA meets Thursdays in room 513. In addition to this activity, FCCLA holds an annual fashion show, attends leadership conferences, and participates in other of competitions and volunteer activities.
