Each October, many sports teams at San Luis Obispo High School come together to help spread breast cancer awareness. Every sport has their own way of expressing their support.
For example, football usually tends to wear pink clothing or a wristband to show that they care and know that this is a serious illness that needs to be shared and supported. Cheerleaders also had pink pom-poms to show their support.
Breast cancer awareness is an effort to raise recognition and reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on symptoms and treatment. People from all over come together every October to help support and bring awareness to this cause.
“The football team came together and wore pink sleeves and arm bands to help bring awareness to the cause. I think everybody on the team takes this very seriously, because a lot of people have loved ones that have gone through this. It’s a cause that deserves our full attention and it should not be overlooked,” said junior and varsity football player Link Danninger.
“We raised money before our match versus [Atascadero High School] and wore pink ribbons to show support. We also put up posters with names of loved ones or friends who have survived breast cancer,” said senior varsity volleyball player Kayla Craft.
There are so many different ways that people can show support for breast cancer. Some of the ways they can help to show support to this illness are volunteering, wearing pink, making a donation, and shopping for different pink products.
