With Summer coming around the corner, San Luis Obispo High School’s beach volleyball players are more excited than ever. The Central Coast’s calm climate combined with the summer sun breeds a perfect combination of conditions for students to move from the gym to the beach. Though school and club seasons for indoor volleyball continue almost year round, June through August is the only time of year when players can hit the sand with their partner in the hopes of winning various medals, prizes, and awards.
“Beach season is great because the weather is always nice, the sand doesn’t hurt when you dive, and there’s babes,“ said Senior Gavin Nolte.
During the season, many different organizations such as the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA), Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), and the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) host tournaments through sponsors to give a chance to players of all ages to take their play to the next level and win a plethora of various prizes. Yet, the greatest part about the season is that even if players go home empty-handed, they can still swim, tan, and relax with their friends at the beach.
