Every San Luis Obispo High School student has been there: sitting in class, staring at a blank page, and realizing that paper is destined for something greater than your math classwork. Expressions interviewed freshman Enrique Ajanel, an avid doodler, to see how he turns a beloved pastime into art.
Expressions: How long have you been drawing?
Freshman Enrique Ajanel: I probably started when I was four.
Expressions: What inspired you to start drawing?
Ajanel: My brother. I just always wanted to be as good or better than him.
Expressions: Has anything in particular inspired your unique style?
Ajanel: Not really. One day I was just testing out different textures and shapes and I just liked how it looked when it was all cluttered and things didn’t really make sense together.
Expressions: Do you have any artists you look up to?
Ajanel: I really enjoy an artist named Vaseni Kasenov.
