Many San Luis Obispo High School students have attended a seasonal high school football game, but most don’t realize the dedication and effort, SLOHS football players put into the game. Expressions interviewed senior football player Pierson Mosichuk to find out what football really means to him.
Expressions: How long have you been playing football?
Senior Pierson Mosichuk: I have played tackle football since the fourth grade.
Expressions: What position do you play, and how do you train for it?
Mosichuk: My position at running back requires me to train in a diverse manner. I am constantly working to improve my agility, strength, balance, endurance, reflexes, and knowledge. We take no days off.
Expressions: What inspired your passion for the game?
Mosichuk: Football isn’t just a game, it’s a way of life. Football takes groups of individuals from any race, background, faith, or class and pushes them to their limits physically and mentally. And the finished product is an efficient group of men that work towards a common goal. This brotherhood is what attracts millions of young men to the game of football.
Expressions: What is the most essential quality when playing football?
Mosichuk: Effort.
Expressions: How has the game influenced other aspects of your life?
Mosichuk: Football has molded me into an individual that never quits and always completes a challenge. Football has also taught me how to lead, and how to be a good teammate. The brotherhood football creates is something that stays with you for a lifetime.
Expressions: What are your plans for the future and do they involve football?
Mosichuk: My plan is to play Football for the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
