Summer break gives San Luis Obispo High School students time to relax, have fun, and focus on what they enjoy. Without school, many teens use the time to hang out with friends, stay active, and take a break from screens, helping their mental health and personal growth.
“Keep up with your athletics or extracurriculars while we have school time off, and make sure to take advantage of the stress-free months,” said sophomore Sloan Retsek.
During the summer months, sports practices can be important because many people may be able to attend more, or pay more attention to what they are doing, without being distracted by their classes in school.
“I usually stay motivated by doing a lot of stuff and just hanging out with my friends and not thinking about schedules or following a certain timeline,” said junior Felicia Boudreau.
Focusing on the things that matter most to you without having schoolwork and teachers is beneficial not only to your social life but also to your mental health and what you put into the years of school to come.
“I recommend getting out of the house. Don’t be on your phone for too long. Make sure to have fun during the summer, because it’s only two months,” said sophomore Jillian Davis.
As smartphone and technology usage become a part of our everyday lives, the more it becomes a problem as well. Most students tend to spend a majority of their time on social media or other devices they prefer, but they are missing out on the fun time they have being a teenager.
Summer is a great time to reset and enjoy life outside of school. Whether you’re training, socializing, or unplugging, use the break to recharge so you can return to school refreshed and ready.
