President Trump was put into office on January 20, and since then he has made multiple changes to this country as a whole. As soon as he was inaugurated, he announced he was going to impose 25 percent tariffs on both Mexico and Canada, to which Canada responded with 25 percent tariffs on the US.
He also announced that he had a plan for China to increase tariffs to 125 percent.
“In my opinion, what Trump is doing is wrong and he is seemingly being consumed by his power as President,” said junior Xavier Lara.
On February 4, Trump announced that he would be imposing a 10% tariffs on Chinese imports, only to slap another 10% on that just a month later.
He announced this week that he had a plan for China to increase tariffs to 125 percent.
“It seems to me that Trump hates China with the way he cancelled tariffs,” says senior Ashur Stepro in response to Trump raising the tariff on Chinese imports to 104% on April 8.
In response to Trump’s intense tariff laws, many countries are raising taxes on US goods. Some examples of this include the aforementioned increase in tariffs from Canada (25 percent) and the rise of taxes from China to 84 percent which started on April 10, the European Union (25 percent) set to begin on the 15, and many other countries.
“Personally, I think that what he’s doing is pretty unwise for a president,” said junior Joseph Bernardo. “Some bigger companies will pass on the extra tax to their customers which entails higher prices on top of the pre-existing inflation.”
Many people are concerned about how this whole ordeal will play out, but in the end, lots of people will suffer from the rise in everyday goods, so we can all agree that what Trump has been doing is no good.
