Two hours north of San Luis Obispo, sandwiched between Carmel Valley and Greenfield, Arroyo Seco Campground is finally back open after two years of road repairs due to flooding caused by heavy rain in 2023. Contrary to its name, Arroyo Seco is an oasis amongst farmland and vineyards, the perfect weekend day trip or spring break camping spot.

Although the water is very cold this early in the year, the river is not too deep and perfect for swimming, with plenty of stepping stones to cross to the other side.
There are a few picnic tables scattered along the riverside. Make sure to bring plenty of food if you’re planning on an all-day stay!
Past the day use area and campground, this trail ventures above the river, providing beautiful views of the whole canyon.
