The wait is over for San Luis Obispo High School skaters. After years of anticipation, the San Luis Obispo Skate Park is finally completed. On February 28, the park had its Grand Opening at its same location, Santa Rosa Park. The new park remodel includes a 10-foot-deep bowl, ramps, stairs, and other street skating elements. These were much needed improvements to the first skate park that it has replaced.
“I’m really appreciative of everything our community done to make this happen. The new skate park has great features and a great design.” said junior Shane Espy. He has been at the park right when it opens at 7a.m. every day this week to get a skate session in before school. Although it has only been open a week, the new skate park is already popular among SLOHS students. Junior Taran Stillwell said that this is great for the skating community and will hopefully encourage more people to start skating.
The new SLO skate park cost the city of San Luis Obispo an estimated 2.2 million dollars, and the funds were raised by the city, through local fundraising and grants.
