2023 was a good year for movies with films like “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” and “Wonka,” but students at San Luis Obispo High School are excited for many of the upcoming movies in 2024.
“[I want to see] ‘Kung Fu Panda 4.’ I can’t wait. I grew up on ‘Kung Fu Panda’ and I love Jack Black. It’s a talking panda bear doing kung fu and he didn’t believe in himself and through training and hard work, he became the Dragon Warrior,” said senior Abhishek Pillai.
Many franchises are coming out with their second, third, and even fourth installments. The reason these franchises are so popular is because the first installment of the franchise was filled with wonder and amazement, which made consumers come back for more.
“‘It Ends with Us’ is coming out. It’s a Colleen Hoover book, which is really weird because it’s about domestic violence,” said senior Mick Scriven.
Adapting books and games into movies can be hard since the audience has a lot of expectations, but some media should stay in its original form.
“It’s teaching little girls that if he hits you it’s okay, as long as he apologizes afterward and has sex with you, which is a bad message in my personal opinion,” said Scriven.

The thing that makes a movie great is having a compelling story, great characters, and being relatable, but also being able to bring people together.
There are many movies students are expecting greatness from and looking forward to this year.
“I can’t wait to see Chris Pratt’s incredibly accurate impression of a kitty cat in ‘Garfield.’ I’m so hyped, it’s going to be the peak of cinema. It’s an orange cat voiced by the worst voice actor of our generation, I mean it’s gonna be hype. I just can’t wait,” said senior Troy Robbins.
No matter what movie genre you like to watch, make sure to grab a few friends or loved ones and go to the movie theater.
